KEDUNGU
Rice fields, surf beaches and a slower west-coast pace just beyond Bali's busiest hubs. Kedungu is emerging as an alternative for travellers who want space, local character and padel without staying in the middle of Canggu.
A developing scene with new options appearing as the area grows.
A good fit if you want to play but prefer a quieter base than Canggu.
The area is spread out, so your exact location matters more here.
Surf, rice fields, villas and a growing café scene with more breathing room.
WHY
KEDUNGU?
Kedungu is for travellers who like what's happening around Bali's west coast — but don't necessarily want to stay in the middle of it.
Head west from Canggu and the landscape begins to open up. Rice fields, smaller roads, surf beaches and more space give Kedungu a noticeably different feel.
Development is coming, including more accommodation, cafés and sporting options, but the area still feels far less concentrated than Bali's established tourism centres.
For padel players, that's part of the appeal. You can stay somewhere quieter, find a game locally and still have Canggu within reach when you want more choice.
WHERE TO
BASE YOURSELF.
Kedungu sits within a much broader part of Bali's west coast. Choosing between Kedungu, Nyanyi, Tanah Lot and further into Tabanan can give you very different trips.
KEDUNGU
The natural BPS base for this part of the coast. Kedungu combines beach access, villas, cafés and a growing visitor scene without yet feeling like another Canggu.
NYANYI
Between Canggu and Kedungu, Nyanyi gives you a quieter coastal base while keeping both areas within reach. It's another part of the west coast worth watching as development continues.
TANAH
LOT
Best known for one of Bali's landmark temples, the wider Tanah Lot area also puts you close to Kedungu while offering a more spread-out coastal stay.
TABANAN
Tabanan stretches well beyond the beach. Head inland and the experience becomes increasingly local, green and removed from Bali's major tourism centres.
PLAYING
KEDUNGU.
Kedungu isn't trying to compete with Canggu on the number of clubs — and that's not necessarily a problem.
The padel scene here is part of a wider shift west, as new accommodation, restaurants and businesses begin appearing beyond Bali's established hotspots.
For players staying locally, having quality courts nearby means you don't necessarily need to battle your way back towards Canggu every time you want a game.
It's also an area worth checking again before every trip. The west-coast padel map is likely to keep changing.

STAY.
EAT. DRINK. DO.
Kedungu isn't about having hundreds of places outside your door. The appeal is finding the good ones while enjoying a quieter side of Bali's west coast.
STAY
Villas and smaller accommodation dominate, often surrounded by more space and greenery than you'll find closer to Canggu.
EAT
The café and restaurant scene is smaller but growing. This is exactly where BPS Picks can help separate the places worth seeking out from everything else.
DRINK
Think sunset drinks and relaxed local venues rather than a major nightlife district. Canggu remains close enough when you want something bigger.
DO
Surf, beaches, rice fields, Tanah Lot and exploring further into Tabanan make this an area where getting away from the main tourism strip is part of the attraction.
GOOD
TO KNOW.
Kedungu, Nyanyi, Tanah Lot and the wider Tabanan region cover a considerable area. A property marketed as being nearby may not be as close as the name suggests.
This isn't central Seminyak. Accommodation, clubs, beaches and restaurants can be spread out, so factor transport into the stay.
This is a developing part of Bali's padel map. Check BPS before travelling for newly opened clubs and updated venue information.
WHO IS
KEDUNGU FOR?
For travellers who want Bali's west coast without needing to be in the middle of Canggu.
Kedungu works particularly well if you like surf, villas, open space and a slower pace — but still want cafés, restaurants and padel becoming part of the local scene.
If you want endless clubs, nightlife and everything on your doorstep, stay further east. If you're happy to trade some convenience for space and a different side of Bali, Kedungu becomes much more interesting.
