NORTH BALI
Black-sand beaches, waterfalls, mountain roads and a much quieter pace. North Bali feels a long way from the island's southern hubs — and that's exactly the point.
A small developing scene where new courts can make a big difference.
For travellers who want to explore more of Bali and fit in a game.
North Bali is a large region, so choose your base before choosing your club.
Less traffic, fewer crowds and a noticeably slower rhythm than South Bali.
WHY
NORTH BALI?
North Bali is for the trip where seeing a different side of the island matters more than having everything on your doorstep.
Once you cross the mountains, Bali changes. The roads get quieter, the coastline feels less developed and the pace slows considerably compared with the south.
Lovina and Singaraja give you the most established bases, while heading west towards Pemuteran or inland towards Munduk creates a very different kind of trip again.
Padel isn't the reason most people currently travel north — but being able to get a game while you're there makes exploring the region considerably more interesting for players.
WHERE TO
BASE YOURSELF.
“North Bali” covers a huge stretch of the island. Lovina, Singaraja, Pemuteran and Munduk offer very different experiences, so don't choose your accommodation based on the region name alone.
LOVINA
The best-known visitor base on the north coast. Lovina has accommodation, restaurants and easy access to the coast while retaining a far more relaxed feel than South Bali.
SINGARAJA
Bali's former colonial capital has a much more local, lived-in feel. It's less resort-focused than Lovina and provides a useful base for exploring the wider north.
PEMUTERAN
Further west, Pemuteran is about diving, snorkelling and slowing right down. It's considerably removed from Lovina and should be treated as its own destination.
MUNDUK
Head into the hills for waterfalls, hiking, greenery and cooler temperatures. Munduk isn't a beach destination at all — and that's exactly why it's worth understanding separately.
PLAYING
NORTH BALI.
North Bali is still at the beginning of its padel story.
That means you shouldn't expect the density of clubs, open matches and tournaments you'll find around Bali's established padel hubs.
But it also makes new venues here particularly interesting. One well-located club can suddenly give travellers and local players an option that previously didn't exist.
BPS will keep tracking new courts and upcoming projects across the north as the scene develops.

FIND YOUR
NORTH BALI CLUB.
Check the location carefully before booking. A venue elsewhere in North Bali may still be a significant drive from where you're staying.
STAY.
EAT. DRINK. DO.
North Bali is exactly the kind of destination where knowing what to do around your game matters. The best trip here is about far more than finding a court.
STAY
Beachfront hotels, villas, smaller guesthouses and mountain retreats give you very different options depending on which part of the north you're exploring.
EAT
Expect a smaller dining scene than the south, with local restaurants, cafés and hotel dining making the good finds particularly useful to know about.
DRINK
Evenings are generally much more relaxed here. Think sunset drinks and local bars rather than major beach clubs and late-night venues.
DO
Waterfalls, diving, snorkelling, mountain scenery, temples and exploring the north coast give you plenty to build around a morning or afternoon game.
GOOD
TO KNOW.
Lovina and Pemuteran are both in North Bali, but that doesn't make them neighbouring destinations. Always check actual travel times before planning a game or day trip.
Travelling north generally means crossing Bali's interior. Give yourself time and treat the transfer as part of the trip rather than something to squeeze between plans.
With a smaller developing scene, openings and changes matter. Check BPS before travelling rather than assuming the options will be the same as your last visit.
WHO IS
NORTH BALI FOR?
For travellers who are happy to leave Bali's busiest areas behind — without necessarily leaving their racket behind.
Come north for the slower pace, coastline, waterfalls, diving and scenery. If there's a good game available nearby, even better.
If padel choice is the priority, South Bali remains the easier base. If discovering another side of the island is the priority, North Bali gives you something completely different.
